Obituary: June Varnell (J. V.) Davis

June Varnell Davis, 89,  best known as J.V., departed this life on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his home in Southside.   He was born in Desha, Arkansas, on June 1, 1934, to Doyle C. Davis and Gertrude Eve Varnell Davis.

He married the love of his life, Laura Laverne Alvis on June 23, 1955, and together they enjoyed over sixty-eight years of marriage. His military career took them to Nebraska, Little Rock, Spain, and the Philippines.  He also served in Iceland and Vietnam.

J. V. retired from the Air Force after twenty-one years of service and worked with Quality Heating and Air Conditioning for several years.  He then went to work at Dow Transport as a safety director and worked there for thirty years until he retired at age 81.

He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 13, 1971 and served faithfully for over fifty-years. He spent many hours sharing in the preaching work and helping others to learn Bible Truth.

J. V. is survived by his wife, Laverne, of the home; his grandchildren, Jeremy and Kylee Johnson, Eric and Jean Johnson, and Brian and Lindsey Davis; his great grandchildren, Ian, Lilly, Brechan, Stephan, Ansley, Colton, Hunter, and Elle Laura; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven Phillip, and a daughter, Laura June Johnson, his brothers, Thomas Ray and Doyle (Pat) Charles Davis.

Service will be Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the North Batesville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2291 White Drive, with speaker, James Knight..
