Beatrice “Bea” (Lane) Sanders of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born February 7, 1936, in Newport, the daughter of James Cledith and Thelma Mae (Bradley) Lane.
Ms. Sanders was a passionate and skilled educator who graduated from Newport High School and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Home Education from the University of Arkansas. After completing her education, she worked as a home economics teacher for the Hot Springs School District, where she excelled in her role.
Ms. Sanders was an active member of her community, where she contributed her time and talents to various organizations. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and one of the founding members of the Hot Springs Lions Club. Besides teaching, Ms. Sanders enjoyed cooking, gardening, and shopping. However, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family.
Ms. Sanders was a faithful member of the Hot Springs Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Mission Stitchers Group.
Ms. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jerry Elbert Lane and Charles “Sonny” Lane.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Sanders of Hot Springs, and Mitchell Sanders and wife, Stacie, of Rosie; one grandson, Justin Hattenhaur and wife, Kristina, of Bono; several nieces, nephews, former students, and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home, on Friday, from 2:00 p.m. until service. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
