Joyce E. Wright, 92, of Batesville, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and loved ones on May 24, 2024, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born to Mildred (Miller) Finley and James “Nelious” Finley, on October 17, 1931, in Zion, Arkansas. Her family included six sisters and two brothers whom she loved dearly.
Joyce married George Junior Wright on October 8, 1947, in Sharp County, Arkansas. Together they raised four children: James C. Wright (Bonnie) of Pique, Ohio; Loretta Gaye Brewer (Larry) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Rachel Bettis (Eddie) of Kansas City, Missouri and George David Wright (Karen) of Little Rock, Arkansas. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 10 great, great-grandchildren as well as a host of extended family and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband and parents, as well as her sister, Geba Williams, and brother, Julion Finley.
She attended Sidney High School and was employed in a variety of positions over the years. However, her primary roles included homemaker, caregiver, and helpmate in ministry with her beloved husband. She was known to be an excellent pastor’s wife, teaching numerous Sunday School classes, directing Vacation Bible Schools, serving as church camp counselor, and participating in women’s auxiliaries, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cave City. She also loved spending time with her family, singing, sewing, and sharing her blessings with others. The family is grateful for the kindness and care provided to our mother by the staff of Eagle Mountain Assisted Living in Batesville, Arkansas, during her time there.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 1st, at First Baptist Church of Cave City, with a memorial service following at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery located at 2449 Antioch Rd, Sidney, Arkansas at 2:00 PM. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Missionary Baptist Seminary at 5224 Stagecoach Rd, Little Rock, AR 72204, or to the Hospice House at 1148 E. Matthews Ave. Jonesboro, AR 72401.
