A Batesville man is being held by Sharp County authorities on probable cause to charge him with raping a child.
According to a story on Region 8 News, Sharp County sheriff’s deputies arrested Edward Baires-Reyes, 26, on Friday, June 7, after a woman reported he had been having sexual intercourse with her child.
According to court documents, the victim told investigators they had been having sexual intercourse with Baires-Reyes since March 20.
“[The victim] stated the first time was not consensual,” Lieutenant Bryce Trivitt said in the affidavit.
The victim alleged Baires-Reyes had sex with them “every day except for the weekends.”
After reviewing the case, a judge found probable cause to arrest Baires-Reyes on suspicion of rape, a Class Y felony.
Baires-Reyes is being held in the Sharp County Detention Center, awaiting arraignment in circuit court on July 15. His bond has been set at $150,000.
