The Highway 167 Emergency Lane project on Ramsey Mountain in Batesville, which began in early May, is progressing smoothly, according to a social media post from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) on Wednesday morning.

The project aims to add extra lanes that can be used if the main lanes are blocked due to an accident. Currently, major accidents on Highway 167 necessitate a detour of approximately one hour, hindering emergency vehicles and inconveniencing the traveling public. The new emergency lanes will be activated when the main lanes are blocked.

Crews are currently performing earthwork and installing underground storm drains. The project is expected to be completed later this year.

ARDOT stated that the cities of Batesville and Southside have collaborated with Independence County to help with this project.
