Marvin ‶Avary″ Kirby, 83, of Harrisburg born November 27, 1940, in Water Valley, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024, at Harris Healthcare in Osceola, under the compassionate care of Legacy Hospice.
Avary was preceded in death by his parents: James ‶J. E.″ and Marie Kirby and his two beloved daughters: Sarah Louise and Elizabeth Marie. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, Carol Kirby of Harrisburg. He is also survived by his siblings: Marlin Kirby and Sylvia Dail also both of Harrisburg. His legacy lives on through his children, Rachel (Kurt) Morton of Northport, AL. Jennifer (Patrick) Wray of Harrisburg, AR and Justin Taylor (David) of Paragould. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Nekea Barnes (Steven Mitchell) of Piggott, Dante (Zane) Leonard of Harrisburg, Mason Barnes of Paragould, Jacob (Darby) Wray, both of Hindsville, Kensey (Andy) Norman of Maynard, Caden Wray and Logan Wray both of Harrisburg, and Joshua Morton of Northport, AL along with his seven great-grandchildren.
Corporal Marvin ‶Avary″ Kirby proudly served his country for two years in the US Marine Corps, including a tour in Vietnam where he earned two Purple Hearts. After military service he spent much of his life as a dedicated farmer. He also worked for Harrisburg Water & Gas and contributed significantly to his community as a member of the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department. Avary loved the outdoors, spending his time enjoying bird watching, gardening, hunting, and raising various animals including horses, cows, coon dogs, and pigs. Known for his hard work, kind heart, and sense of humor, he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2024, at Jackson’s Funeral Home in Harrisburg from 6:00 until 8:00 and Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024, @ 10:00 A. M. in the chapel. The interment will be at Holly Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department reflecting Avary’s dedication to service and community. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will forever endure. Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home.
