Kathleen M. Hunter, 95, of Tupelo passed from this life on July 30, 2024.  She was born October 27, 1928, in Tupelo to Samuel Authur and Flossie (Coleman) Middlebrook.

Kathleen was a dedicated member of Sandhill Church of Christ. She generously volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at the hospital and participated in the prison ministry. Her commitment to her community extended to the Jackson County clean-up efforts, and she conducted a summer reading program. Kathleen’s sense of service and adventure led her on three mission trips to Guyana. Her leadership skills were recognized when she was elected mayor of Tupelo, a position she held for two terms.

Kathleen had a passion for gardening, especially her vast collection of Day Lillies. Her greatest love, however, was her family. She took immense pride in her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, always cherishing the time spent with them. Kathleen’s legacy of service, love, and dedication to both her community and family will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  She was often referred to as the glue that held the family together.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years, Dorr Edwin Hunter; her son, Doyle Edwin Hunter; her brother, Sammy Middlebrook; her sister-in-law, Tommie Middlebrook; her grandchildren, Laurie Lody and Kim Hunter.

She is survived by her daughter, Dale Kidwell (Rod) of McCrory; her brother, Douglas Middlebrook (Brenda); her sisters, Betty Moody, Lucy Faye Meise, and Linnie Pelkey; her grandchildren, Lisa Ann Watts (Sammy), Hunter Lane (Christy), Hannah Garner, Savannah Smith (Seneca), and Patrick Kidwell; her great-grandchildren, Gabbie, Jordyn, Jackson, Joanie, Ryan, Landon, Alanna, Christian, Lily, Christopher Allen, Josh, Brittany, Kasey, Alex, Hallie, Joseph, and Madison; and her great-great-grandchildren, Layton, Lynnen, Laura Leigh, Giovanni, and Celeste, Kayden, Ashlynn, and Elizabeth.

Service will be @ 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Sandhill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
