An area provider of emergency medical services has announced its participation in a “groundbreaking” K9 Medic Training Program.
According to a Vital Link media release, the program demonstrates its commitment to comprehensive emergency medical services and community safety.
The specialized training, designed to equip paramedics with the skills needed to provide medical care to K9 units, reflects Vital Link’s dedication to the well-being of both human and canine members of the emergency response team. The K9 Medic Training Program, conducted in collaboration with leading veterinary experts and emergency medical instructors, provides paramedics with hands-on experience and advanced knowledge in K9 emergency care, the release said.
The program covers a wide range of topics, including trauma management, CPR, wound care, and the safe handling and transport of injured K9s.
“Vital Link is thrilled to be part of this innovative training initiative,” said Kenny Tosh, Vital Link’s chief operations officer. “Our K9 units are invaluable partners in law enforcement and search and rescue operations. Ensuring that our paramedics are equipped to provide the best possible care to these dedicated animals is a top priority for us.”
The training sessions will include realistic simulations and scenario-based exercises, allowing paramedics to practice their skills in a controlled environment.
Participants will learn to quickly assess and stabilize injured K9s, administer life-saving treatments, and work alongside veterinary professionals to ensure the best outcomes for their canine patients.
“We believe that this training is a crucial step in enhancing the capabilities of our emergency response teams,” added Wade Henderson, a Vital Link supervisor. “By expanding our expertise to include K9 medical care, we are better prepared to support our law enforcement and rescue partners, ensuring that every member of our team, both human and canine, receives the highest standard of care.”
Vital Link Paramedics’ participation in the K9 Medic Training Program underscores its commitment to innovation, excellence, and community service, the release said.
“As one of the leading emergency medical service providers in the region, Vital Link continues to set the standard for comprehensive, compassionate, and cutting-edge care.”
