Oma Jane Magness, 68, of Newport, departed this life on August 24, 2024. Born on October 22, 1955, in Newport to Elba Vernon and Mindy Pauline (Lee) McCoy, Oma lived a life deeply rooted in her love for her family and friends. A devoted homemaker, she found joy in the simple pleasures of shopping and cooking, always ensuring her loved ones were well taken care of.
Oma cherished the special friendships she formed with Rita Scudder and Janice Johnson, who were like family to her. Her warmth and generosity were evident in her relationships, and she will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elba Vernon and Mindy Pauline McCoy; her beloved husband, Ellis Magness; her brothers, Donald McCoy and Tommy McCoy; and her sisters, June Sauseda, Linda Turner, Shirley Hendrix, and Shirley Jo Stallions. Their memories live on through the stories and love Oma shared with her children and grandchildren.
Oma is survived by her sons, Marcus Magness (Crystal) of Newport, Steve Magness of Newport, and Michael Magness of Newport; her daughters, Susan Magness (Billy Reynolds Jr.) of Newport, and Amanda Linvell (Jeremy) of Newport. She also leaves behind her brothers, Earl McCoy (Paula) of Michigan, and Vernon McCoy (Bernice) of Arkansas, along with ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael Magness, Marcus Magness, Steve Magness, Tyler Linvell, Justin Magness, and Austin Magness. Honorary pallbearer, Tommy Magness, Roger Pokejoy, and George Harriman.
A service celebrating Oma’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel officiating with interment at Watson Cemetery, where Oma will be laid to rest beside her loved ones. Visitation will be Friday, August 30 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
