Maxine Hackney, 83, of Newport, passed from this life on August 27, 2024. She was born on October 17, 1940, in Strawberry, Arkansas, to Elmer and Dorotha (Ward) Wagner.

Maxine was a woman of simple joys and deep love for her family. She had a passion for fishing, where she found peace and relaxation. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting the casino, where she enjoyed the thrill and excitement. Maxine was also an exceptional cook, known far and wide for her delicious fried chicken, a dish that brought her family and friends together around the table. Her greatest love, however, was her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, J.W. Wagner; and her sisters, Yvonne Hamil, Eula Mae Tomlinson, and Betty Lou Whisner. Their memories were cherished by Maxine, and she kept their spirits alive through her stories and love.

Maxine is survived by her son, Michael Hackney (Barbara) of Newport; her daughters, Marsha McIntosh of Newport, Rhonda Webb of Newport, and Rita Scott (Mike) of Bella Vista; her sisters, Beulah White and Willie Jean Reynolds; her grandchildren, Mindy Scott, Erica McIntosh, Whitney McIntosh, Alex Scott, Anna Marie Hackney, Tyler Webb, and Hayley Webb; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Maxine will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her legacy of love, warmth, and delicious cooking will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 on August 31, 2024, at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:30 until service time.
