Baxter County authorities have announced that a homicide investigation is underway in the death of Rickey Joe Millsap, 50, of Mountain Home. Millsap’s body was found in Moccasin Creek at the Baxter County/Izard County line on Aug. 15.

Sheriff John Montgomery said last week that Millsap’s autopsy indicated foul play was involved in his death.

Montgomery said the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies have been actively investigating the death since Millsap’s body was discovered. Investigators have been procuring search warrants and collecting forensic evidence, the sheriff said.

Millsap had not been seen since Aug. 9, but he had not been reported missing.

Anyone with information concerning Millsap’s death is asked to contact the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division in person, by phone at (870) 425-7000, or by emailing CID Lieutenant Brad Hurst at bhurst@baxtercountysheriff.com. Tips can also be submitted through the Sheriff’s Office website and mobile app.
