Eugene Reed, 73, of Newport departed this life on Friday, September 20, 2024, at The Blossoms at Newport. He was born July 11, 1951, in Newport, Arkansas to the late Walter (Bo) Reed and Annie Sue Roberts Reed.
He attended Newport High School District and was a member of the class of 1972.
Eugene worked several odd jobs to support himself. He loved fixing all the neighbors’ children’s bikes, but his greatest passion was working in the church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter (Bo) Reed and Annie Sue Reed; four brothers, Thomas Reed, Walter Reed, Andrew Green and Larry Reed; two sisters, Carrie Butler and Littie Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two brother, Joe Reed of Los Angeles, California, and David (Sewonia) Reed of Newport; three sisters, Linetta Reed Gist, Olivia Reed and Merry A. Reed all of Newport; two sisters-in-law, Emma Reed of Searcy and Thelma Reed of Newport; one uncle, John Roberts of San Diego, California; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his church family.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kenny Cox, George Bovan, Ricky Steel, Roosevelt Reed, Sonny Hardaway and Billy Joe White.
Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Fifth Street Church of Christ with Interment at Gum Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
