Scots fall at Hendrix 2-0
CONWAY, Ark. – The Lyon College Scots battled to a 0-0 halftime score at Hendrix College on Monday night, but two goals by the Warriors in the second half spelled defeat for the Scots.
Lyon College (3-4-2, 1-0) gave up two goals in the second half. The first came at 54:29 and the other at 74:31.
Lyon had six shots and two on-goal, three corner kicks and made three saves. Eric Oliveira had two shots and one on goal, Traviss Ragan had two shots and one on goal, and Gustavo Giesbrecht and Fabian Martinez both had shots at the goal in the match for the Scots.
Gabriel Rangel had three saves for Lyon College.
Scots football shut out by Texas Lutheran 49-0
BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College Scots had several chances to make a game of it against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium in Batesville, but the interception bug ate them alive in a 49-0 loss in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Scots, 1-3 and 0-2, got a promising start when Javarion Williams picked off a Texas Lutheran pass on the first series of the game. However, despite the hard running from senior running back Jaylin Babers, the Scots weren’t able to move the ball for a first down.
The Scots had another chance to score later in the first half, but they threw an interception in the end zone for a touchback. Lyon College threw four interceptions in the second quarter, and the Bulldogs rose to a 28-0 lead at halftime.
Lyon College had another pass picked off in the end zone for another touch back late in the game.
Despite crucial catches from Reggie Brown, Xavier Long and Cedric Allen, the Scots moved the ball up and down the field, but never could get a touchdown. Either Lyon College had to punt or threw an interception, one of which was returned for a touchdown in the first half, but brought back on a Texas Lutheran penalty. The Scots did block an extra-point attempt by the Bulldogs in the first half, but later gave up a two-point conversion.
Scots men’s soccer defeats Eureka College 2-1
BATESVILLE, Ark.—The Lyon College men’s soccer Scots defeated Eureka College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in an SLIAC match.
The Scots (3-3-1, 1-0) scored first on a goal by Erik Oliveira on an assist from Tomas Garzon at the 16:31 mark of the first half.
Eureka came back to make it a 1-1 tie at the 20:59 mark, but in the final seven minutes of play in the second half, Lyon College won. A shot by Luca Crigliano at the 83:04 mark sealed the win for the Scots.
Lyon had seven shots and three of those were on-goal attempts.
Individually, Garzon had one assist, Oliveria had two shots on goal and scored one of them, Joao Barros had two shots, Lucca Torres had one shot, Tiago Donadon had one shot, and Cirigliano had one shot, as did Cirigliano, who scored the game-winner.
Goalie for the Scots, Megale Henrique had four saves in the match.
Scots women’s soccer wins 7-0 over Eureka in SLIAC match
BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College Scots women’s soccer team defeated Eureka College 7-0 on Saturday to gain a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The Scots (2-4-1, 1-0) scored three goals in the first half and added four in the second.
The Scots’ first goal came at the 12:33 mark when Katelyn Balderas booted in a goal off an assist by Zoe Papazoglou.
The second Lyon goal came at the 24:34 mark when Emily Betzold got her kick in the net.
Jessica Steele scored a goal two minutes later, assisted by Alexis Whitley. Steele then scored her second goal in the second half with 58:30 on the clock, also assisted by Whitley.
Allison Byars scored a goal at the 67:05 mark of the second half on an assist by Papazoglou.
Millie Beller scored her first goal of the season at the 81:57 mark of the second half and Hanna Birgisdottir had her first goal, as well, at the 88:07 mark of the second half on an assist by Mikayla Neveloff.
Angela Penaflor had a shot on-goal in the match, Steele had three shots on-goal and scored twice, Papazoglou had one shot on-goal and two assists, Lauren Couture had two shots on-goal, Balderas had four shots, three of which were on-goal and scored one, Betzold had one shot on goal and scored it, Nataly Furne had five shots, two of which were on-goal, Whitley had one shot on-goal and two assists and Byars had two shots on-goal and scored one.
Scots goalies Jessie Stauffer and Sydney Wolf had no saves in the game and didn’t give up any goals.
Scots volleyball nine-match win streak ends at Webster tri-match
WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. — Lyon College volleyball suffered its first loss in nearly a month, dropping both matches at the Webster tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The Scots (10-3, 2-2) played back-to-back matches at Grant Gymnasium in Webster Groves this morning. They started with a 3-0 loss to Greenville University (9-5, 4-0) in their 10:00 AM match. This was their first loss in SLIAC conference play and their first overall loss since August 31.
At 12:00 PM, they turned right around and played hosts, Webster University (5-9, 1-4), a team they had beaten 3-0 last weekend in Batesville. They dropped that match by a final 3-1 decision.
The Scots will continue SLIAC play this upcoming Tuesday night, October 1, when they host the Owls of the Mississippi University for Women. That match is set for a 7:00 PM start at Becknell Gymnasium.
Scots volleyball takes second match at Blackburn with 3-0 final
CARLINVILLE, Ill. — Lyon College volleyball won their second road match in as many days against Blackburn College on Friday, Sept. 27.
After going to five sets in their victory on Thursday night, the Scots (10-1, 4-0) left no doubt in their Friday victory as they swept the Beavers (1-14, 0-4) in three sets with final scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-17.
Statistical leaders for the Scots included senior outside hitter Kylee Sabella with 16 kills, freshman setter Caroline Snow with 21 assists, sophomore defensive specialist Marti Flores with 21 digs, and senior middle blocker Samantha Ferguson leading the way with four blocks. Junior outside hitter Cristen Cleveland also had a solid performance, garnering 10 digs and leading the Scots with two aces.
Scots Volleyball takes first of two matches at Blackburn
CARLINVILLE, Ill. — Lyon College volleyball wins the first of two back-to-back games at Blackburn College.
The Scots (9-1, 3-0) remain unbeaten in SLIAC conference play as they defeat Blackburn (1-13, 0-3) by a final of 3-2, on Sept. 26. This was the tenth match of the season for Lyon College volleyball, and it was the first match that went to five sets.
Senior middle blocker Mollie McCoy led the way for the Scots in kills (18), freshman setter Caroline Snow had the most assists (21), sophomore defensive specialist Marti Flores had the most digs (16), and McCoy along with fellow senior middle blocker Mikhayla Wright each picked up three blocks. Senior outside hitter Kylee Sabella also had a great showing, putting up 13 kills, 13 digs, and two assists.
Lyon College men’s A team places fifth, B team seventh and C team 10th at Scots Fall Classic
BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men’s team had three different squads competing in the Scots Fall Classic tournament at The Course at Eagle Mountain on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Scots A team finished fifth with a total score of 603, the Scots B team finished seventh with a total of 653, and the Scots C squad was 10th overall with a total score of 694.
Individually, Ryan Kriz (A) finished 12th overall with a score of 150 after shooting a 74 on Tuesday. Manav Perfecto (A) was tied for 13th overall with a two-day total of 151 and shot a 76 in round two.
Brooks Vangilder (A) was 19th overall with a 152 total after shooting a 78 in the second round. John Blake Tuner (A) was also tied for 19th place with a 152 total and a 79 in round two. Michael Winne (A) was 22nd with a 153 total after an 80 on day two. Madden Bentley (B) was 28th overall with a 156 and a 74 in round two. Bode Moss (C) was 30th overall with a total of 158 after trimming two strokes off his day one score to shoot a 78 on Tuesday. Wes Lange (B) was 37th after shooting a total of 161 and having a 78 in round two. Tyler Doucet (B) was 38th with a 165 total and shot an 83 in round two. Robert Hopper (B) was 45th with a 171 after shooting an 87 in the second round. Ace Sibley (C) was 48th with a 172 total and an 85 on Tuesday. Kyle Dennison (C) was 50th overall with a two day total of 174 after he shot an 89 in the final round. Isaac Gooch (B) was 54th with a 183 after having a round of 96. Alex Gleason (C) was 56th with a 190 after a 92 on the final day.

Scots women’s golf finishes third at Scots Fall Classic tournament
BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women’s golf team finished third in the Scots Fall Classic golf tournament at The Course at Eagle Mountain on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Scots ended with a final score of 803, behind Mississippi University for Women in second and winner Cottey College.
Lyon was led by Madison Robb (22nd) and Jesi Odom (20th), who both shot 99’s on the day. Emma Johnson finished 16th overall and shot a 100 in the second round. Zoe Anderson (28th) shot a 116, and Keylee Lyons (32nd) came in with a 131.
