Peggy Lou Girtman Sandy, 78, of Smithville, departed this life on Friday, October 4, 2024, in Batesville.  She was born in Grange, Arkansas, to Roy and Missie Johnson Girtman, on February 17, 1946.

She and Johnnie Ray Sandy were united in marriage on October 30, 1965, and enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage until his death on March 22, 2024.

During her working years, Peggy worked on the assembly line at the White Rodgers Company until retirement and then she worked in medical records at Rebsamen Medical Center in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

Peggy loved to play bingo and she was often found to be heavily involved in word search puzzles. She might be considered a “gambler” of sorts due to her enjoying going to Tunica. Her love of mints was to be shared by many as she would always have a container filled!  Going to church and listening to the children sing also brought much enjoyment to her life.

She is survived by her son, Ray Dean (Jess) Sandy, of Scott, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Madison and Anastassia; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnnie, her daughter, Diane, four sisters, Agnes, Elizabeth, Mary Jane, and Sybil, and three brothers, R. B., Ray, and Coy.

A Funeral Service will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Doty Southside Funeral Service with Bro. Larry Sellers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Alderbrook Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Brightwell, Aaron Brightwell, Clay Smith, Zion Brown, Michael Sandy, and Steven Sandy.

Honorary Pallbearer is Danny Beckham.

A time of visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until service time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the One Way Children Program at Saffell Missionary Baptist Church, 467 AR-25, Saffell, Arkansas, 72672.
