Obituary: Ada Raney

Ada Raney, 89, of Cave City passed away October 12, 2024.

She was born May 5, 1935, in Shiloh, Arkansas to Joseph and Edith (Brewer) Bittle.

Ada worked as a nurse for her husband’s medical practice for 35 years, then worked at Arkansas College in admissions and financial aid and at Cave City Schools as a tutor and a nurses’ aide. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cave City for 52 years and sang in the church choir. She loved her family and enjoyed working in her flower garden. She was a happy, caring, and loving person who mothered lots of people over the years.

Survivors include four daughters, Cheryl Raney (George Roth) of Folsom, California, Bonnie Miller of Cave City, JoAnne Wilkes (Bobby) of Cave City, and Sandra Abreu (Tony) of Stamford, Connecticut; one brother, Tatum Bittle of Heber Springs; eleven grandchildren, William Troy Raney III, Timothy Raney, Gordon Raney, Byron Wilkes, Pathe Miller, William Abreu, Andrew Abreu, Michael Abreu, Katherine Beland, Phaedrae Watts, and Rachael Raney; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Troy Raney, Sr.; two sons, William Troy Raney, Jr., Charles Webber Raney; one granddaughter, Jon Chesser; two brothers, Clyde and Kennedy Bittle, and three sisters, Josephine Hipp, Susan Brown, and Mary Stark.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Cave City with Brother Paul Strang and Brother Jerome Jolly officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to First United Methodist Church of Cave City, 56 AR-115, Cave City, AR 72521 or to a charity of your choice.’
