The Arkansas State Police have issued the official fatality report on the Oct. 13 incident at the JFK Overlook in Heber Springs where a pick-up truck broke through a barrier and crashed below the Greers Ferry Dam.

According to the report, the accident occurred at 9:03 a.m. when a Chevrolet pick-up driven by Ismael Ponce, 28, of Clarksville, Tenn., was in the overlook parking lot when it went through a fence, over a bluff, and crashed into the side of the dam.

The impact of the crash ejected Ponce out of the truck, which came to a rest on its top at the bottom of the dam beside the Little Red River, entrapping a passenger, identified as Yesi Lopez, 28, also of Clarksville, Tenn.

Lopez was taken to UAMS in Little Rock for her injuries.

The report noted the weather was clear at the time of the accident.

According to the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were alerted to the accident through the truck’s OnStar monitoring system.
