Lyon College women’s soccer falls to Greenville 5-0
BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women’s soccer Scots fell to the Greenville Panthers 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Huser Field in Batesville.
The Scots (3-8-2, 2-3-1) fell behind 3-0 in the first half and gave up two other goals in the final 45 minutes.
Jessica Steele had one shot, Hanna Klara Birgisdottir had one on-goal kick, Emilee Simpson had an on-goal kick and Nataly Furne had two on-goal kicks for Lyon College in the contest.
Jessie Stauffer, the Scots goalie, had eight saves in the match.
Lyon College men’s soccer ties Greenville 1-1
BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College Scots are still in contention for a SLIAC title, but Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at Huser Field with the Greenville Panthers hurt their chances of winning the title outright.
With some help from some other teams the Scots (6-5-4 and 4-1-2) and a win against Principia, who plays at Lyon on Saturday, they could find themselves back in the thick of the league title race.
The Scots only goal came on a penalty kick at the 53:22 mark of the second half on a netted kick from Joao Barros. The Panthers came back to tie the game in the 76th minute.
Lyon had a chance to score in the final seconds, but the kick was blocked from the goal and the game ended.
Matheus Nunes had a shot in the match for the Scots, Gustavo Giesbrecht had two on-goal kicks, Barros scored his only on-goal shot and Luca Ciricgliano had a shot on-goal.
Lyon College goalie Gabriel Rangel had four saves on the afternoon.
Scots women’s soccer outmanned by Webster 9-0
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College Scots women’s soccer team ran up against the SLIAC conference’s top team and lost 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.
Lyon College (3-7-2, 2-2-1) lost their second conference game in a row.
The Scots had only one shot on-goal in the game and it was by Nataly Furne.
Jessica Steele, Zoe Papazoglou, Lauren Couture, Sydney Wolf and Allison Byars played the entire 90 minutes of the match.
Scots men’s soccer ties Webster 0-0 in SLIAC match
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College Scots men’s soccer team tied Webster 0-0 in a SLIAC match on Saturday, Oct. 19, in St. Louis, Mo.
The Scots (6-5-3, 4-1-1) had 17 shots and three were on-goal in the contest to only nine shots for Webster.
Erik Oliveira had three shots, Matheus Nunes had three shots, Tomas Biasi had two shots with one on-goal, Lucca Torres had one shot, Gustavo Giesbrecht took one shot on-goal, Tiago Donadon had three shots and Luca Cirigliano had four shots, one of which was on-goal.
Scots goalie Gabriel Rangel had four saves in the shutout tie.
Scots drop 28-21 SCAC game to Centenary at Homecoming/Scots Fest
BATESVILLE, Ark. – Lyon College nearly pulled off a SCAC win on Saturday, Oct. 19, in Batesville, but a late interception led to a Centenary touchdown and a Scots 28-21 loss at Pioneer Stadium.
The Scots (1-6, 0-5) led 21-14 in the third quarter, but gave up the tying score touchdown with 1:54 to go in the game. An untimely interception resulted in Centenary scoring with 15 seconds remaining to get the win.
Lyon College opened the game with a 4-yard touchdown run from Jaylin Babers with 9:54 on the clock in the first quarter. Jesus Romero-Castillo added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Centenary came back to tie the game with 2:14 left in the first quarter.
Aedan Huntsman blocked a Centenary punt and Mark Brown grabbed the loose ball and ran it in for a 32-yard touchdown at the 9:55 mark. A bad-snap on the extra point attempt put the Scots up 13-7.
Centenary scored with 6:13 left in the second quarter to take a 14-13 lead.
The Scots grabbed the lead back with 5:55 left in the third quarter, when quarterback Grayson Johnson ran in from 24-yards out and Babers scored a 2-point conversion on a Joe Galay pass.
Individually, Johnson was 14-of-18 passing for 155 yards. Babers rushed 27 times for 106 yards and scored a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Johnson ran five times for 36 yards and scored a touchdown.
Javarion Williams had three catches for 74 yards, Huntsman had five receptions for 49 yards, Reggie Brown II had four catches for 39 yards, while Cliff Washington had one catch for seven yards, Xavier Long had one reception for one yard and Babers had two catches for one yard.
Defensively, Mason Davis had 10 tackles and a sack. La’Kendrin Moore had nine tackles, Michael Wingo had seven tackles and Nate Sarver had four tackles to lead the Scots.
Scots volleyball splits matches in final home SLIAC tri-match of the season
BATESVILLE, Ark. — Lyon College volleyball hosted SLIAC foes Fontbonne University and Westminster College on Friday, Oct. 18.
The Scots started the tri-match against Fontbonne at 3:00 PM, and took down the Griffins in a five-set thriller after coming back from down 2-1. Final set scores were 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 25-19, and 19-17.
This match would set a precedent as the next two matches on the day took five sets to decide.
The Scots played their second and final match of the tri-meet against Westminster College, and dropped the match in set five to the Blue Jays, suffering their first home loss of the season.
The Scots will return to action next Friday, Oct. 25 when they travel to Columbus, Miss. to take on SLIAC foe, Mississippi University for Women. The Scots have one final home match for the 2024 season, which will be played at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when they host Central Baptist College for Senior Night at Becknell Gymnasium.
