Lyon College men’s basketball ranked first; Scots women’s basketball picked fourth in SLIAC preseason rankings

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) preseason basketball ranking for the 2024-25 season have the Lyon College Scots men’s basketball team ranked first and the Scots women’s basketball team picked fourth in the polls.

The Lyon College men’s basketball team were tri-champs in the SLIAC last season. The Scots return John Paul Morgan, Trent Bell, Luke Bridges,Kylon McCullough, Malik Madison, Frank Toney, Israel Palmer, Ahmado Diallo, Jackson Midyett, Gavin Brunson, Jaaron Harriott, David Baffour, Isaiah Sweetwine and Jerrit Pectol from that regular season title run in 2023-24.

Newcomers to the team area, Colbie West who is a 6-7 junior transfer from Arkansas State University-Newport Community College; Brody Tucker who is a 6-2 junior transfer from National Park Community College; Luv Patel who is a 6-0 freshman from Harding Academy in Searcy; 6-3 freshman from Queen City, Texas, Trevonne Horsley; a 6-4 freshman from Cave City, Jayson Joplin; Johnzelle Bush who is a 6-2 sophomore transfer from Albany Tech Community College in Columbus, Georgia; a 6-5 freshman from Norcross, Georgia, Kennedy Warren; a 6-2 freshman from Riverview High School in Searcy, Tucker Cunningham; Karlin Hardy who is a 6-5 junior transfer from Northwestern State University in St. Charles, Lousiana; and 6-9 freshman from San Antonio, Texas, Aidan Salazar.

Head Coach Rodney Mayes is entering his fourth season with the Scots and welcomes new assistant coach Sae’Quahn Rogers, who is a native of Burlington, North Carolina. Also coming back to the team in a new role will be former Scots forward John Michael Stastny, who will be a volunteer coach.

The Lyon College women’s basketball team is picked fourth overall in the preseason SLIAC poll behind Webster, Greenville and Westminster.

The Scots return Savanna Lopez, Zharia Childress, Emily Walley, Olivia Jones, Mia Winston, Natalya Kaza, Samantha Taylor and Chasity Taylor from last year’s squad. Newcomers to the team this season are senior transfer from Christian Brothers University and from Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Haven Cooper; junior transfer from Allen County Community College and Springdale Har-Ber High School, Dalye Hambelton; freshman Alexis Shelton from Laquey, Missouri; junior transfer from Arlington Baptist University, Da’Myia Derby from Austin, Texas; freshman from Heber Springs, Savannah Stout; freshman from Christian Ministries Academy in Hot Springs, Faith James; freshman from Bee Branch, Arkansas Jewel Walley; freshman from Laredo, Texas, Izabel Soto; freshman from Benton Harmony Grove, Olivia Wallace; and freshman from Republic, Missouri Molly Mason.

The Scots are coached by Casey Fowler, who is entering his third season as head coach. He is assisted by veteran coach Michael Peckham, who is his second season with the team.
