Despite the recent rainfall across the area, many burn bans remain in effect.

Batesville Fire Chief Mark McCollum and Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery confirmed to White River Now on Thursday morning that the county burn ban remains in place.

“The burn ban is still in effect,” Jeffery said. “Some fire chiefs think the rainfall isn’t enough at this time.” (Click here for a list of current burn bans in Arkansas.)

In addition to Independence County, Stone, Cleburne, White, and Lawrence counties remained under a burn ban as of 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The forecast expects most of Thursday’s rain to clear out by 1 p.m., with more precipitation anticipated on Saturday.
