Garland Lee Walker of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born September 6, 1937, in Newport, the son of William Bryan and Ruby Irene (Shirley) Walker.
Mr. Walker was a 1955 graduate of Newport High School and was self-employed in heavy equipment sales. He had a strong work ethic, spending his life doing the work he enjoyed.
Mr. Walker was a pilot who loved to fly. He was very involved in politics and enjoyed watching sports, especially NASCAR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Ruby Walker; and one brother, Gilbert Dean Walker.
Mr. Walker is survived by three sons, Ricky Walker of Pocahontas, Ronnie Walker of Hot Springs, and Dean Walker of Newport; two daughters, Brenda McDonald and husband, Sean, of Fairhope, Alabama, and Carol Childers and husband, Wallace, of Tuckerman; Naomi (Eddington) Walker of the home; four grandchildren, Bryan Walker and wife Cierra, Matthew Walker, Claire McDonald, and Mackynlea Walker; one great-grandson, Connor Walker; two brothers, Jimmy Dale Walker and wife, Sandra, of Newport, and Jerry Wayne Walker, and wife, Janet, of Newport; one sister, Betty Sides of Newport; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
The memorial service will be Friday, November 8, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Bill Chambers officiating.
