Jackie Sue Embrey, 77, passed away on November 12, 2024, in Batesville, AR. She was born on January 27, 1947, in Batesville, AR to the late Carthel Cleo Chavers and Fredith Faye (Kimbrough) Chavers. Jackie was of the Christian faith and attended church at John 3:16 when she was able. She was also a member of the ASPCA. Jackie enjoyed reading, dancing to country music, cooking, and gardening. She loved animals, plants, and flowers, and she was known for her green thumb. She was very patriotic, loved her country, and was a big supporter of veterans. Jackie was an avid Razorback fan, as well. You never had to wonder what she was thinking. She was tiny but mighty and very sassy. She was a busy bee, always up and doing something. She always had a washcloth in her hands and a big pot of her homemade signature soup on the stove. Jackie was a momma bear to lots of kids, mostly her kids’ friends, and if you came to her house and left hungry, it was your own damn fault. Above all else, family was everything to her and she loved spending time with them any chance she had. Jackie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Jackie is survived by her spouse, Walter Ray Reed; sons, Dr. James Newton Waugh, Ed.D. (Lichelle) and Gene Cleo Waugh (Wendy), both of Batesville, AR; daughters, Leslie Dean Embrey of Kansas City, MO, Laci Dawn Lee (Trey) of Fayetteville, AR, Misty Dean Hardin (Chad) of Lakeland, FL, and Mendy Lee Embrey of Higden, AR; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister, Joanne Chavers of Batesville, AR. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Faye Chavers and Winnie May Chavers; and brothers, Marvin Cleo Chavers and Harold Vaughn Chavers.

There will be a visitation held at Willis Funeral Service Chapel on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 2 PM until 4 PM. The funeral service, officiated by Shaun Davis, will follow at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA or Independence County Humane Society.
