One doesn’t have to go far to find award-winning burgers in the Batesville area.

In June, two local restaurants scored big at the Miracle League of Arkansas’ Big Burger Competition.

Meme’s Burgery, a food truck located next to The Tea Crate in Batesville, won first place in the People’s Choice category for the second consecutive year. Meme’s also took second place in the judges’ rankings, who awarded first place to Jesse Dorris of Jesse James Foods on Harrison Street in Batesville. The first-place win qualified Dorris to compete at the World Food Championships (WFC) in Indianapolis this month.

In the WFC opening round last week, Dorris placed third in the world for his Ghost Burger. On Tuesday, he placed seventh in the world for his Jesse James Burger.

A quick trip up the highway from Batesville leads to Bailey’s Family Restaurant in Cave City, where the gigantic “Caveman Burger” holds accolades of its own. Named one of the top 10 burgers in the state by the Arkansas Beef Council in October (along with Meme’s), Bailey’s was also awarded first place in the council’s inaugural Arkansas’s Best Burger Contest.

On social media, Dorris shared details of his time in Indianapolis, highlighting how his burgers received worldwide honors.
