The community of Melbourne will have over $5 million to improve its wastewater treatment plant.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), a federal loan of $1,457,000 and a federal grant of $3,933,000 will be used to make “essential” improvements to the plant.

The funds, made through the USDA’s Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program, will replace aging infrastructure, ensure safe and reliable wastewater transmission, and prevent pollution and runoff in the community of 1,830 residents.
