A Charlotte man was arrested earlier this month after authorities say he resisted arrest and was found in possession of methamphetamine.
On Jan. 11, Independence County Sheriff’s Sgt. Zachary Spohr responded to a convenience store after receiving a report of a man revving his motorcycle engine and acting erratically.
Spohr found Steven Poole, 51, sitting on a motorcycle and reportedly moving his head and hands as if under the influence of narcotics, according to an incident report.
A check of Poole’s driver’s license revealed he had a search waiver. When informed, Poole allegedly claimed to be a deputy U.S. marshal but could not provide identification.
Spohr told Poole to step off the motorcycle to be arrested for public intoxication. Poole refused, took a defensive stance, and swung at the deputy before being pulled off the motorcycle, the report stated.
After a brief struggle, Spohr handcuffed Poole and placed him in a patrol vehicle. During a search, Spohr found a white crystalline substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine and a light bulb modified as a smoking device.
Poole was booked into the Independence County Jail on two felony drug charges and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and public intoxication. His bond was set at $5,000.
