
Shirley Ann (Woodruff) Johnson of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born September 1, 1946, in Newark, the daughter of Forrest Samuel and Ethel Mae (Green) Woodruff.
Mrs. Johnson was a 1964 graduate of Newark High School. She worked 13 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Newport as an operator, before taking a job with White Rogers at Batesville, where she spent the next 20 years of her career.
Mrs. Johnson was a longtime, active member of the Newark First Baptist Church.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in her yard. Mrs. Johnson was a huge Arkansas Razorback fan, seldom missing the chance to watch a game. Most importantly, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny O. Johnson; one sister, Kathy Stout; two grandsons, Tyler Spencer and Chris Spencer; and her parents.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by one son, Michael Powell and wife, Kathryn of Newark; one stepson, Scott Johnson and wife, Rachel of Cabot; two step-daughters, Deana Morris and husband, Dean of Malvern, and Jeanna Bieber of Forrest City; nine grandchildren, Seth Powell of Newark, Taylor Ozbun of Weiner, Brant Ozbun of Newark, Abe Ozbun of Newark, Steven Stout, Paige Stout, and Holly Stout, all of Rosie, Ashton Walker of Cabot, and Lauren Taylor Johnson of Heber Springs; five great-grandchildren, Steller Stout, Jax Ozbun, Austin Spencer, Anna Spencer, and Hadley Spencer; a special nephew, Brad Stout and wife, April of Rosie; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit Newark First Baptist Church on Wednesday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Newark First Baptist Church, with interment following at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Eddie Woodruff, Chad Treadway, Tommy Treadway, Billy Littleton, Danny Brustom and Scott McCoy. Honorary pallbearers are Jack and Connie Moss, Andrea Nelson, Davita Batesville Nurses, and members of the Newark Class of 1964.
