Obituary: Windford Ray “Bud” Mankey

Windford Ray “Bud” Mankey of Raytown, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 74. He was born March 3, 1950, in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, the son of Laverne and Eleen Mankey.

Bud was a 1971 graduate of Harrisburg High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving until his honorable discharge in August 1975. In 1976, he joined the United States Army, where he dedicated himself to military service until his retirement in 1994. Following his military career, Bud began a second career with the Raytown School System, eventually retiring. He later returned to work part-time as a custodian for the school.

Bud was a devoted fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs and rarely missed watching a game. He took great pride in keeping his vehicles clean and particularly enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee, and discussing politics.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Mankey; three brothers, Donald Mankey, Robert Mankey, and Jessie Mankey; one sister, Carolyn Lamb; and his parents.

Bud is survived by his longtime companion, Teresa Wilson; one daughter, Kerri Mankey; two bonus sons, Josh and Jeremy Wilson; one bonus daughter, Amber Wilson; one grandson, Cash Autrey; three bonus grandsons, Cooper Wilson, Oliver Wilson, and Clark Wilson; one great-granddaughter, Cheyanne Garst-Autrey; two brothers, Johnny Mankey and Cecil “Mack” Mankey; and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services are 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Coffeyville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Josh Wilson, Jeremy Wilson, Josh Mankey, Allen Mankey, Vernon Lamb, and Cash Autrey.
