Arkansas State Police have arrested a Gassville man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man last month, authorities said Wednesday.
Danny Paul Whitsel (pictured), 58, was taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by certain persons in the Jan. 30 shooting of Ian Lapio, according to state police.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting on Mountain Loop Road, where they found Lapio lying in the street with gunshot wounds. Witnesses told investigators that Lapio and Whitsel had been involved in an altercation before the shooting, police said.
Whitsel is being held at the Baxter County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
Authorities also arrested Crystal Marie Whitsel (pictured below) on felony charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threatening, as well as a misdemeanor charge of third-degree battery. She is being held at the same jail on a $25,000 bond.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division assisted Gassville Police Department with the case.
