Despite some rumors to the contrary, local officials report that the Social Security Administration (SSA) office on Dry Kiln Road in Batesville is not scheduled for closure.
Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery posted on his Facebook page Thursday that the Batesville SSA office is set to remain open, according to a member of U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford’s office.
Jeffery noted that while the SSA office is staying open, a hearing room at the facility is being relocated as part of budget adjustments being implemented nationwide.
Beginning last month, the local SSA office now requires an appointment for most services.
