Marcella traffic stop puts two behind bars on meth charges

The Stone County Sheriff’s Office continued to hammer illegal drug activity this week. During a traffic stop late Tuesday evening, May 29, on Hwy. 14 east near Marcella, Lt. Zach Alexander and Chief Dep. Dwayne Pierce made contact with the driver, Samantha Morgan, and the passenger, Stephen McCarroll.

During the stop, it was learned McCarroll was in possession of a 9mm loaded pistol, lying near the passenger seat, according to court information. He also had additional ammunition in his pocket.  The court information noted that one of the pistol’s serial numbers was defaced with another serial number legible. It was checked through the National Crime Information Center and was found to have been stolen from Tyler, Tex.

Found as well in the vehicle was more than two but less than 10 grams of methamphetamine; digital scales; and two baggies of illegal pills. Both Morgan and McCarrol were arrested.

Prosecuting Attorney Holly Meyer charged McCarroll with possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver; simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm; possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon
; possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to analyze or test methamphetamine; theft by receiving more than $1,000 but less than $5,000. And McCarroll was also charged under the Sentencing Enhancement Law

Morgan was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia with the purpose to analyze or test methamphetamine. She was also charged under the Sentencing Enhancement Law

Morgan was placed under a $50,000 cash or professional bond, and McCarroll was put under a $100,000 cash or professional bond. Both are currently in jail. Stone County Sheriff Lance Bonds said his department worked with the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force on this case and thanked them for their valuable assistance.
