The search is still on for a 37-year-old Independence County woman who was last seen on the highway between Newport and Oil Trough.
Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens said the situation is still a mystery to him. He told White River Now’s Gary B., the investigation so far shows Brooke Allensworth leaving in her car from Newport to go to Searcy. On the way, she had a flat, and apparently a passerby used a can of “fix-a-flat” to get her going again.
The quick fix didn’t last long, and the tire apparently went flat again. Allensworth pulled off the highway and into an area by the bridge just outside Oil Trough. The sheriff said when his deputies were called to the area, they found the car abandoned with a flat tire.
Allensworth hasn’t been seen since.
Allensworth could have been picked up by someone, according to Stephens, or she could have “took to the river.” He said that’s why they have searched the river with an airplane, search boats, and searchers walking the river on foot. Sheriff Stephens said that is what is going on today — search boats on the river and searchers walking the banks.
Stephens said if anyone knows the whereabouts of Allensworth, or has any other information, to call the Sheriff’s Office at (870) 793-8838.
