The election division of the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office provides for the voter a pocket guide to voting in the Natural State called “Voting 101.”

It comments on the question:  Does one vote really make much difference?

And the booklet says it’s not uncommon for elections to be decided by extremely narrow margins, especially in local races. An example from an election in Arkansas occurred in 2010 when two candidates for sheriff in Stone County tied twice, both in the primary and the resulting runoff election. It took a special election called by the governor and subsequent court challenges to determine the party nominee.

As one can see, just a handful of voters — even just one vote — can make a huge impact and even be the deciding vote.
