An Independence County man was pulled over early Saturday morning by Independence County Deputy Sheriff Cydney Baxter.
In her report, Baxter she passed a truck on White Drive with a headlight out, so she turned around and with her emergency lights.
After pulling the vehicle over, Baxter said she immediately noticed the strong smell of intoxicants coming from the 34-year-old Independence County man. When questioned about how much alcohol he had to drink, Baxter said the answer was “probably too much” at a bar near the Jackson County border at Elgin.
After questioning the subject, checking his vehicle paperwork (finding that his vehicle registration expired in November), noting his demeanor, and finding a bottle of whiskey on the vehicle floorboard, it was determined that he was intoxicated and did not need to be driving.
The driver was arrested and taken to jail where he was given a blood/alcohol test which showed a blood alcohol content level of .15. (The legal limit for drivers over 21 in Arkansas is .08.) The driver was then cited for driving while intoxicated, failure to pay registration fees, and driving left of center — all misdemeanors. The driver’s court date was set for Jan. 23 in district court.
