Batesville High School’s head girls basketball coach has been named All-Arkansas Preps Girls Coach of the Year by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the state’s largest newspaper.
Stan Fowler coached the Batesville girls to a 14-0 conference record and finished the season with an overall record of 29-3 culminating with the girls 4-A State Championship. The Batesville girls averaged scoring just over 68 points per game while giving up just over 47.
One of the team leaders was a sophomore point guard who was selected as an All-Arkansas Prep Girls first team member. Isabella (known locally as Izzy) Higginbottom, also made the class 4-A All-State team, and All-State Tournament team.
Those aren’t the only honors bestowed on area basketball players. Kaley Shipman of the Mountain View Lady Jackets’ class 3-A state championship team was selected to the second-team All-Arkansas Prep Basketball. (Keep in mind these selections we are talking about are for all classes, ranging from 1A to 6A.) Kaley was also selected as an All-State and All-State Tournament team member.
In boys basketball, a 6-4 junior guard from Izard County Consolidated, Justus Cooper was named to the second team in All-Arkansas Prep Boys Basketball by the Democrat-Gazette.
He was also selected to the All-State and All-State Tournament teams.
Congratulations to all! Well deserving indeed!
