One person was injured when a church van collided with a pickup truck at 30th and Harrison Streets near The Home Depot in Batesville around 7:50 Sunday evening.

According to Batesville Police, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was turning left off 30th Street while a Ford Econoline church van belonging to Quail Valley Freewill Baptist Church was heading west on Harrison Street when the two collided in the intersection.

The truck was knocked onto its top, with both the driver, Matthew Howard Walmsley, 16 and passenger, Josh Walmsley, 14, escaping injury.

The investigating officer said the van was driven by Chuckie L. Kimmerling, 50. Kimmerling’s van was carrying four passengers. Three of the passengers were uninjured, while fellow passenger Mary A. Southard, 89, reported a minor injury. She was taken by ambulance to White River Medical Center for treatment.

Both the drivers and witnesses had conflicting statements as to who had the green light at the intersection, — and therefore the right-of-way — when the collision occurred.
