The Melba Theater in Batesville will be hosting a red carpet celebration to mark its third year of being open since the renovation completion. The 2019 Anniversary Celebration will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, and will feature the 1997 classic film, “Titanic.”

James Cameron’s “Titanic,” described in a press release announcing the celebration as “…an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic; the pride and joy of the White Star Line and, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. She was the most luxurious liner of her era — the ‘ship of dreams’ — which ultimately carried over 1,500 people to their death in the ice-cold waters of the North Atlantic in the early hours of April 15, 1912.”

At the anniversary event, there will be pre-show entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, giveaways, and more. Attendees are encouraged to dress in attire that is reflective of the movie and its theme. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., entertainment will begin at 6 p.m., and the movie will start at 7 p.m. Tickets to the event are $25 each or $40 per couple. Seating is general admission.

In 2016, the historic Melba Theater reopened after an extensive renovation. Two local couples — Adam and Mandi Curtwright, and Joe and Janelle Shell — purchased the theater in 2014 and restored the theater as close as possible to the original architecture.

“The ticket sales this year will also ensure stability and preservation of the historic Melba Theater,” stated Joe Shell, Melba Theater co-owner. “With an old building there is always something to work on, and we want to keep our historic structure in great condition for years to come.”

Tickets are available for purchase at the Melba Theater ticket box or online at melbatheater.com.
