Three area airports will receive grants as part of the $986 million in airport infrastructure grants nationwide that are being disbursed by the U. S. Transportation Department through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
That money is part of the $3.18 billion that will be allotted through the Airport Improvement Program funding for airports across the United States.
Locally, Calico Rock/Izard County will receive $149,892 to rehabilitate an apron, taxiway, and runway. Heber Springs Municipal Airport is scheduled to receive $145,611 to remove obstructions and install airport beacons. And Batesville Regional Airport will receive $115,934 to rehabilitate a runway and taxiway.
The bulk of the “big money” funding Arkansas grants will go to the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport at Adams Field. The airport will receive two grants that total $6.3 million dollars. Both grants will be used to expand aprons.
This year, the FAA will award grants to 354 airports in 44 states and two territories: Micronesia and Puerto Rico.
