A threat to kill police officer leads to felony charges against a Mountain View man

A threat to kill led to felony charges against a Stone County man. The subject, identified in court information as Larry Dean Gaffney 2nd (pictured), 46, was at a residence in the 400 block of Persimmon Lane in Mountain View on Saturday, Nov. 2, without invitation or permission to be there, according to authorities.

Sgt. Rick Crome of the Mountain View Police Department arrived and found Gaffney behind the residence. Crome informed Gaffney that he would have to leave and placed hand restraints him. Gaffney then refused to be placed in the patrol car without a confrontation with the officer. During that confrontation, Gaffney threatened to kill  Crome, court records report. Finally, with assistance from patrolman Russell Gilbert, who had arrived on the scene, Gaffney was placed into Gilbert’s unit and taken to jail.

As a result of the incident, Gaffney is charged with: terroristic threatening in the first degree, a felony; criminal trespass; refusal to submit to arrest; and disorderly conduct
.

Gaffney was placed in jail and on a $5,000 bond.
