BJHS student bowls perfect 300; Southside and Batesville battle it out on the lanes

Here’s a round-up of recent bowling news from area schools.

Batesville Junior High School eighth-grader Sophia Strain (pictured) recently bowled a perfect 300. Strain is only 14, making her the youngest in Batesville history to ever roll a perfect game.

Strain, a member of the Batesville Youth United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Association, accomplished the feat during the Generation Gap League, rolling her 300 in game two.

Her other scores were game one (171) and game two (189). Sophia rolled her #15 Roto Grip Idol.

Strain began her bowling career at the age five in the youth leagues at Hollywood Bowl. She started bowling at the age of three. She also participates in the Saturday morning Youth Leagues at Hollywood Bowl.

And Fred Denison, the bowling coach at Southside, recently passed along results from Wednesday’s match-ups between Southside and Batesville at Hollywood Bowl.

Boys Results: Southside-13. Batesville-0

Singles Matches: Southside won 535-462, 559-488, 536-417, & 466-282.

Bakers Matches: Southside won 204-124 & 177-120.

For Southside, Blake Duncan led with a high game of 232. Caleb Patterson added a 217 game, Hunter Smart had a 203, and Lance Mynatt added games of 193 and 192.

For Batesville, Landen Hodge led with a high game of 190. Daniel Paul added a 162 and Will Reynolds added a 159.

Girls Results: Batesville-8. Southside-5.

Singles Matches: Batesville won 459-452, 380-325, and 302-297. Southside won 439-410.

Bakers Matches: Southside won 132-122 and Batesville won 159-127.

For Southside, Katie Denison and Hope Sharp tied for the high game with a 159 each. Emma Patterson added a 150 game.

For Batesville, Lola Beeser led with a high game of 171. Ronnie Laslo added a 168 and Katelyn Barksdale added a 150.

“Our boys bowled pretty well again today,” Denison said. “Some different guys are scoring their high games so that is good to see. The girls match was really close. We lost one game by 7 pins and one by 5 pins, so it was very close to being a win for us. Both girls teams bowled well, and it was a good, competitive atmosphere at the lanes today.”
