It turned out to be more than just another incident of a mother and son yelling at each other.
Batesville police officers were called to Dari Drive residence on Jan. 3 in regard to a domestic confrontation between a man and a woman. The call later turned into an illegal drug situation that ended with the man being charged with several drug violations including maintaining a drug premises, according to a BPD release.
When officers arrived, they reported meeting a woman identified as Cynthia Wilson outside the residence. Wilson told BPD Patrolman Ryan Pierce that she and her son, Matthew Baylor (pictured), 41, had gotten into a verbal argument. When officers asked the whereabouts of Baylor, his mother said he was inside the residence.
Officers checked the residence, but couldn’t find Baylor.
Yet, according to the release, they did notice marijuana plants under grow lights in Baylor’s bedroom.
Narcotics Investigator Dillon Sallas, Arkansas State Police Agent Greg Tebbetts, and 16th District Drug Task Force Agent Blake Cruz obtained a search warrant that evening and executed the warrant a few minutes later, the release said.
Officers found fourteen marijuana plants in Baylor’s bedroom being grown with fans and under grow lights, authorities reported. Also in that room, officers located a large variety of marijuana smoking devices, a variety of marijuana seeds, and packaging material such as baggies.
Police also found a video monitor that was displaying video from a camera located near the residence’s front door. And they located a freezer in the kitchen with approximately 237 grams of suspected processed marijuana in four separate containers. More packaging — such as plastic baggies — was also found in the living room along with digital scales, according to the release.
Baylor was found, arrested, and charged with manufacturing a controlled substance; maintaining a drug premises; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of drug paraphernalia to ingest or inhale an illegal drug
Baylor is in jail and on a hold for the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Baylor’s bond was set at $20,000.
