A letter received by Southside Mayor Ray Bowman from the United States Postal Service says a preferred last line for addresses within the city boundaries of Southside has been approved and will go in effect March 14.
Currently, the last line for addresses within the city of Southside is Batesville, AR 72501.
Effective March 14, USPS customers may still use that last line, or they can use Southside, AR 72501.
The USPS said both city, state, and zip code designations will be acceptable to use for residential matters. Business mailers mailing merchandise to Southside residents, mailing software will prompt them to use Southside, AR 72501.
The Postal Service also noted that the moratorium has been lifted on a Contract Postal Unit, and the USPS is waiting on the updated guidelines.
Mayor Ray Bowman said once the new guidelines are received, the USPS will work with the city government to identify possible businesses the USPS can partner with on a Contract Postal Unit, a business that would want to provide space and operate the Postal service.
