Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road at (RV) Park
Hunter Daley led the Scots with 12 points in the loss
PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Lyon College men’s basketball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon as the Scots traveled to (RV) Park for an American Midwest Conference matchup. The Scots came up short and fell on the road to the Pirates, 59-46.
Park improved to 20-6 (15-6 AMC), while the Scots fell to 17-11 (12-8 AMC).
Park set the tone early against Lyon from the opening tip as the Pirates jumped out to a 7-0 lead five minutes into the contest. The Scots pulled back within four at 9-5 following a bucket by Hunter Daley two minutes later. Park began to pull away and took a 19-9 lead over the Scots with just under five minutes remaining on a jumper by Quez Williamson. The Scots cut the deficit in half following a three-point play by Faris Verlasevic, but Park scored the final two buckets of the half and took a 24-15 lead at the break.
Park extended its lead to 41-21 after a layup by Shahadah Camp at the 13:11 mark before the Scots responded with a 14-3 run, which was capped off by Winston Peace that trimmed the deficit to 44-35. Lyon continued to work its way back into the game as a three-pointer by Daley pulled the Scots within five, 51-46, with 1:46 remaining. The Pirates went on to end the game on an 8-0 run for the 13-point victory.
Daley led the Scots offensively with a team-high 12 points, while Dominique Loyd chipped in 10.
The Scots will return home for the final two games of their 2019-20 regular season next week. The Scots will host St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Columbia College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

No. 11 Scots Clinch Top Seed in AMC Championship with Win at Park
PARKVILLE, Mo. – Liz Henderson scored a career-high 32 points as the 11th-ranked Lyon College women’s basketball team locked up the No. 1-seed in the American Midwest Conference Championship with a 79-52 win at Park on Saturday afternoon. The AMC Women’s Basketball Championship will be held on March 5, 7 and 10 at the higher seeds. The Scots improved to 25-2 (21-1 AMC), while Park fell to 6-19 (3-19 AMC).
Park held their own against the Scots through the first 10 minutes of the game and took a 14-9 lead over Lyon with 3:46 remaining in the quarter on a three-pointer by Amanda Alexander. The Scots responded with an 8-3 run, which was capped off by a three-pointer by Henderson to knot the score at 17-17. Park quickly regained the lead on a bucket by Brianna Miller in its next possession before Henderson tied the score at 19-19 with a layup in the final seconds of the quarter.
Lyon jumped out to a 26-19 lead with a 7-0 run to start the second quarter before Park responded with a 9-2 run to tie the score at 28-28. Henderson caught fire from the field as she knocked down three straight three-pointers as Lyon took a 37-28 lead with 2:47 left in the quarter. Kayla Richardson converted on a pair of free throws before Henderson scored on a bucket in the paint. Henderson finished with 22 points in the first half as Lyon took a 41-29 lead into the locker room.
Park trimmed the deficit to six in the opening minutes of the third quarter before a 15-1 run by the Scots midway through the third period gave Lyon a 57-37 lead. The Pirates managed to pull back within 12 to start the fourth quarter by Lyon responded with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes and cruised the rest of the way for the 27-point victory.
Jade Giron and Katie Turner scored 12 points each, while Madison Riley added 11.
The Scots will return home for the final two games of their 2019-20 regular season next week. The Scots will host St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Columbia College on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
