In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Independence County Judge Robert Griffin announced the entire staff of the Juvenile Success Center has been laid off.
“I am sad to announce we had to lay off all employees of the Juvenile Success Center. This involves 23 employees. The COVID-19 crisis has caused juvenile intakes to be put on hold, while this crisis unravels,” the judge said. “It is sad that with the measures developed at our center, by the very employees being laid off, to improve lives, our people have become casualties of the COVID-19 virus, but not by being infected.”
“I am proud of the job our people were doing and hope that when this crisis is over, we will reopen to bring more juvenile successes,” Griffin said.
The judge also added that as positive cases increase in the state, the county should also expect to see an increase. As such, Griffin asks all citizens to continue with protective measures, hand washing, distancing, covering mouth, shopping for necessities while maintaining a six-foot distance from each other, and now per CDC recommendations, wearing a mask as a protective measure for others and those who wear the masks.
