A Desha man was killed and another injured Saturday night in an accident involving ATVs.
According to the Arkansas State Police report, around 11:45 p.m., a Can Am ATV was heading west on Highway 25 in Desha alongside a Honda TRX 500. The report said the left side of the Honda ATV struck the right side of the Can Am, causing both vehicles to overturn.
The driver of the Can Am, identified as Jose Neri, 22, of Desha was killed. The driver of the other ATV was injured and transported to White River Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Southside residents will remember Jose Neri when he was a student there. He served as a manager of the football team during his high school years. Head football coach Kenny Simpson told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman that Jose really wanted to play football, but he did not have a collarbone, so he served as a manager.
Simpson said it hit him hard when he heard of Jose’s death. The coach said he was a student one remembers — a good person, with many friends, and a great sense of humor.
State police said the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time of the accident.
