Mieko Uchida Peek, 72, of Batesville passed away on April 27, 2020, after an extended illness.
She was born in Kumagaya City, Japan on April 18, 1948, to Fusayoshi and Kisae Uchida.
Mieko held an undergraduate degree from Tokyo Women’s College and master’s degrees from Japan’s International Christian University and the University of Northern Iowa. She met and married John M. Peek, another UNI graduate student, in 1975. The family moved to Batesville in 2000. Mieko served as an instructor of Japanese language and literature at Lyon College until her retirement in 2015.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Ken and Kevin Peek; and one grandchild, Liam Peek.
Her death was preceded by the passing of her father and mother.
