The Batesville School District announced in a press release Wednesday the launching of a new virtual school option to begin this fall for students K-12.

The establishment of the Pioneer Virtual Academy comes from funding from the CARES Act and was a topic of discussion at Tuesday night’s special Batesville School Board meeting.

The district shared in the release the hope for returning to traditional schooling in the fall but noted that the district recognizes some families may have reservations about sending children back to school or may have found online learning works better for their family.

Students enrolled in BSD’s virtual school will have access to a certified teacher and will receive the same content as on-site students. They will be allowed to participate in campus activities, and there will also be some requirements to meet onsite for testing and screenings. Most of the content and meetings will be delivered virtually via online platforms, the release noted.

Those with questions about the virtual option are encouraged to contact Jennifer Douglas at jdouglas@gobsd1.org or call 870-793-6831, ext. 1008.
