UPDATE, July 13, 2020, 8:30 a.m.: An Independence County man has died of injuries sustained in a shooting incident Sunday night at a Batesville convenience store while the accused suspect, injured by gunshot wound to his shoulder, is now in custody, according to a release from the Batesville Police Department.
BPD officials say officers were dispatched to Hawg’s Exxon around 7 p.m. Sunday in reference to a shots fired call. Upon arrival, the officers found a man identified as Andrew Milton, 34, lying on the ground next to his vehicle. Upon assessment of Milton, he was found to have multiple gunshot wounds to his torso area, the release said.
While the officers were administering immediate treatment, the release said Milton told officers that the person who shot him was Casey Evans, and he left the area in a red Ford F150.
Milton was transported to the White River Medical Center where he eventually succumbed to his injuries, the release said.
A description of Evans was given to surrounding agencies, and a deputy with the Independence County Sheriffs Department later observed a vehicle matching Evans’ F150.
Upon performing a traffic stop on the vehicle, deputies made contact with Robert Casey Evans, 46, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the rear of his left shoulder. Evans received treatment and was released to the custody of the Batesville Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing. White River Now will update this story as more information becomes available.
