UPDATE 07/28/2020:

Izard County Judge Eric Smith said today that the Courthouse is closed to walk-in traffic for the rest of the week.

He said last week, an employee was not feeling well, stayed home, and then was tested for the coronavirus.  He said the test came back positive, so the rest of the courthouse officeholders and staff and those in contact with the positive case were tested.

Smith said out of 15 tests, two others tested positive and have been quarantined.

The Judge said now the county is being cautious and waiting to make sure three is the most positives that will come of the situation.

He did note that although the courthouse is closed to walk-in traffic, people can still conduct their business over the phone or computer.

The Izard County numbers show 35 positive cases since the start of the pandemic, with 27 recovered, one death, and seven active cases.

ORIGINAL 07/22/2020: According to a Facebook post by Izard County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Izard County Courthouse will be closed July 23 and 24 for cleaning after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

“Izard County has a total of six positive cases… One of these cases include a fellow employee here at the courthouse and we are praying that they have a fast recovery. As for the rest of the staff, we have all been tested this morning and, as of now, none of my fellow employees are showing any signs/symptoms of the virus. The only employee with direct contact has been tested and is in self isolation,” the post stated.

The Izard County OEM further reminded the public to be respectful of others and businesses and to continue being vigilant in adherence to guidelines.
