One man is dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting incident in Independence County early Wednesday morning.
Sheriff Shawn Stephens told White River Now his deputies responded to the scene in the Bethesda area around 3:30 a.m.
In a media release, the Independence County Sheriff’s Department said they responded to a scene in the county where “a subject had been shot.”
Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject who had sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The sheriff told White River Now the wounded male had to go to a neighbor’s house to call 911 after the shooting.
Another male subject was located at the scene — deceased from a gunshot wound, the release said.
The body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
Names are being withheld until notification of the next of kin, according to the statement.
There have been no arrestes reported at this time.
