Area superintendents said Tuesday that the first day back to school went very well and credited their schools’ staff, teachers, students, and parents.
At the Batesville School District, Superintendent Dr. Michael Hester said Monday was a “…very, very good day.” He also noted enrollment is up, even from the last days of last year with 3,135 students — not including pre-school.
“All other indicators show we’ll continue to grow our enrollment for the next month if our society stabilizes with the health pandemic,” Dr. Hester said.
Southside Superintendent Roger Rich said the students, the teachers, the parents, and the staff made it a very good first day in that district.
“I thought it went extremely well under the circumstances. I’m sure it was challenging for all schools, but I’m so proud of our team and the plan they put together. Our kids did an awesome job, and our parents were so cooperative. I’m just not sure we could have asked for a better day,” Rich said.
At the Cedar Ridge School District, Superintendent Dr. Sherry McMasters said that thanks to the district’s leadership team, faculty, and staff prepping for the first day (and year), Cedar Ridge probably had one of the best first days in its history.
The superintendent said there were some slight traffic issues at the pre-school and high school, but otherwise, it was a smooth day.
“I think the kids had a good day. I think the teachers are so excited to be back on campus and be back with the students that yesterday just went really well,” Dr. McMasters said. “I’m giving them an ‘A’.”
And things went well at the Midland School District, according to Superintendent Dr. Bruce Bryant.
“It was a great day. We had no hiccups, and we just hope that we continue Day 2 through Day 178 just like Day 1,” Dr. Bryant said.
The three schools in the Mountain View School District — Mountain View, Rural Special, and Timbo — start Wednesday.
