An Oxford man has been charged with two felonies in Izard County Circuit Court after a weekend shooting incident.
According to a release from Sheriff Jack Yancey’s office, deputies were dispatched to Whispering Pines Road in Oxford in reference to a shooting call around 7:45 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 11.
One of the victims called the sheriff’s department and stated he and two other people had a gun pointed at them and shots were fired, the release noted.
While deputies were on the way, a man identified as Jerry Bierman (pictured above), 72, of Oxford, called the sheriff’s department and stated he had just shot at a man because he (the man) “…had damaged Bierman’s truck mirror.”
After deputies arrived on the scene, two of the victims stated they were in a truck pulling an ATV down the road to try and start it. While doing this, an older man (later identified as Bierman) pulled up in a silver pickup and flagged him down. The victims stopped to see what the man needed, and Bierman allegedly pulled out a pistol, pointed it at one of the victims while talking to them, and then discharged the pistol shooting over the cab of the truck, the release said.
As a result, Bierman was formally charged on Monday, Sept. 14, with two counts of aggravated assault, a Class D felony, and resisting arrest, a Class B misdemeanor. His bond was set at $10,000 with a court date of Sept. 16 in the Izard County Circuit Court
Deputies noted there was no damage to Bierman’s vehicle as he had told the dispatcher, the release said.
